GIVING TUESDAY 2020

Dear Friends of Tourette Texas,

I don't know about you, but I am regretting my purchase of a 2020 planner, because nothing this year has gone as planned! This year has been hard. And for many children with Tourette's, 2020 has been devastating. They have struggled with anxiety, lack of routine, and a disruption of learning due to Covid-19. Tourette Texas has been so needed to walk with families through the rough terrain of these past few months.

Calls asking for help have been increasing, the need for resources has grown exponentially, and families have been struggling in the midst of so much stress. With school back in session, anxiety is high, and individuals with TS are dealing with more tics and other physical and emotional challenges.

Tourette Texas has stretched to meet the need, but it has been difficult because so many fundraising events have been cancelled. Events like our golf tournament and clay shoot that are so important to resource the organization for the entire year, just didn't happen. As a result, we are struggling to meet all of the needs of our community.

Good work is still happening, but Tourette Texas can't meet the need alone. We need YOUR help to serve this population during the stress of the pandemic.

One big expense that is so important to our community is CAMP! And some exciting news is that our Camp du Ballon Rouge has grown--by a day! We are adding a day to camp so that there is more time for connection, more time to make friends that understand, and more time for fun! One parent said that camp helps her daughter know "that her condition does not define her and she is not alone.” This camp will be a great experience in a time that has been so difficult.

Will you please support our families this year? We need to show them that there is hope and there is help. Tourette Texas will be there for them, but we need you to be there for US.

We are grateful for your continued commitment to this community and to these kids. Thank you for making it possible for us to serve those living with TS in a year that didn't go as planned.

I want to close with a quote from one of our Tourette siblings named Madeline-

“Tourette Texas changed our life for the better! Before meeting Sheryl Kadmon and the team at Tourette Texas, I didn’t understand my brother. Our whole family didn’t understand why he couldn’t stop clearing his throat and doing other things. Then when we became part of this chapter, and got the education we wished we’d gotten when he was little, we realized that it was a real medical issue and not a behavior. Meeting Sheryl and the team at Tourette Texas saved my brother and our whole family! I decided to take on the role of Youth Ambassador as a sibling supporter to help other kids and their brothers and sisters overcome the challenges of TS!”

Let's continue to make a difference together!
